What Moves The Number
The same project can sit at either end of the range. These are the reasons why.
Frost depth
New Hampshire post holes are dug below frost — commonly around 4 ft in this part of the state. Deeper holes mean more digging time, more concrete and more spoil to deal with than in a warm-climate quote you might find online.
Ledge, roots and rocky ground
Seacoast and inland lots hit ledge and glacial rock regularly. When an auger stops, holes get hand-dug or relocated, and that time shows up in the price.
Slope and grade
A fence on a grade is either stepped or racked. Both take longer to lay out and can add posts compared to the same footage on flat ground.
Access
If equipment can reach the fence line, the job is faster. Tight in-town lots, narrow side yards and existing landscaping mean more hand work.
Tear-out and disposal
Removing an old fence, pulling concrete footings and hauling the debris is real labor plus dump fees. It is quoted separately for a reason.
Layout complexity
Corners, ends, gates and short runs each need their own posts. A hundred feet in one straight line costs less than the same footage broken into five sections.
Permits and property lines
Some towns require a permit or setback check, and HOA or shoreland rules can dictate height and style. Knowing your line before layout avoids the most expensive mistake in fencing.
